SD40 - Building Strong Literacy Foundations: Connecting the Reading Brain and Foundational Skills

Building Strong Literacy Foundations: Connecting the Reading Brain and Foundational Skills

Join us for an engaging workshop where we’ll dive into how the brain learns to read and how foundational literacy skills play a critical role in this process. Together, we will examine research highlighting the importance of phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension, and explore how these components work together to build proficient readers.

Through a Structured Literacy framework, we’ll focus on evidence-based strategies to support early reading development, equipping you with practical tools to enhance literacy instruction.

By the end of this session, you’ll walk away with actionable strategies to foster literacy growth in your classroom. This workshop will also set the stage for upcoming sessions, where we’ll focus on leveraging universal screeners to guide targeted instruction and intervention.
