In this series of 1-hour sessions we will look closely at Responsive Classroom ™ practices to help us build strong classroom learning communities that have belonging, agency and an academic growth mindset at the centre. The environment we cultivate, and the relationships we form, lay the groundwork for establishing routines that provide scaffolds for success for children and free us to engage in effective instruction. Session 1: Gathering Together
What makes Morning Meetings so powerful for a classroom community? We will look at the elements of these gatherings that instill belonging, fun and learning in the life of the classroom.
Session 2: Teacher Language
How we talk to, about, and with, children affects our image of them, and their image of us! We will address 5 simple rules and 2 routines that can make setting the tone for learning more productive and learn about instructional routines that engage kids while supporting equity.
Session 3: Learning Environments and Academic Success
Academics matter! When children know they are learning they feel successful and develop even more agency and engagement. As teachers, how do the learning spaces and experiences we provide contribute to academic success and make our Tier 1 instruction more effective?
Session 4: Structures to Support Self-Regulation
Supporting students in routines that contribute to a healthy classroom space requires time and consistency. What are the key elements to managing behaviour that keep us all on track, maintain strong relationships, and establish a classroom of empathy, resilience and personal growth?
